Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Water Cooler with Applied Oak Branch Decoration and 1885 Date, OH origin, 1885, ovoid cooler with footed base and semi-rounded rim, decorated with hand-modeled applied handles in the form of open oak tree branches with leaves and acorns, embellished with incised details. The applied date "1885" to front and squared spigot with canted corners below. Includes original domed lid with applied oak branch. Salt-glazed surface. Outstanding applied work and appealing small size. One open handle including one attached acorn restored. The applied decoration around this handle remains intact. Other handle with restoration to the end of one limb, a small restoration to tip of one limb, and restoration to a section of two leaves. Traces of paint to rim appear unrelated to any sort of restoration. Lid with an approximately 1" section of limb restored and an unrestored chip to flange on underside. H (including lid) 15 3/4".
