One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON VT:," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Crack in base of handle. A hairline extending partway through midsection of handle. A 2" crack from spout on reverse. Additional short surface cracks to spout. A 1 7/8" spider line at base on front with a small in-the-firing ping above. A 1 1/4" cross-shaped line emanating from a tiny surface chip on left side of jug. H 12 1/2".
