Rare Pierced Work Redware Sugar Bowl with Lid, PA origin, early to mid 19th century, ovoid, double-walled form with ropetwist handles, intricately decorated with arched, sawtooth, and diagonal pierced motifs. Includes original double-walled, domed lid with arched piercings and circular punches. A meticulously-crafted work, requiring great skill and patience on the part of the potter. Related examples can be found at Winterthur and The Philadelphia Museum of Art. A circular worn area around underside indicates the bowl's original foot adhered to something in the firing and was lost. A small rim chip. Minor wear to rim and interior. Lid with chips to edge and flange on underside. H (including lid) 5 1/4" ; Diam. (at rim) 6 1/4".
