Fine Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Iron Slip Decoration, Stamped "CHANDLER / MAKER," Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, cylindrical jar with narrow mouth and oversized tab handles, the surface covered in a greenish alkaline glaze and decorated with slip-trailed iron slip looping line decoration on the front, reverse, and area below the handles. This jar's colorful glaze includes thick bluish runs to the bottom half. Unusual and visually-appealing form. A 2 3/4" area of shallow chipping to one handle and a small chip to same handle. A small chip to opposite handle. H 14".
