Very Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Toby Pitcher, Impressed "AO," Dated 1903, Arthur Osborne, Low Art Tile Works, Chelsea, MA origin, 1903, molded pitcher in the form of a laughing man's bust with tricorn hat, the interior, decorated with cobalt highlights under a clear salt glaze. Front incised with the cobalt-highlighted inscription, "Feb 22 / 1903 / F C Tof." Albany-slip-glazed interior. Underside impressed "AO," for Arthur Osborne, the chief decorator at the Low Art Tile Works, Chelsea, Massachusetts. Osborne is best-known for producing a number of ceramic art tiles depicting classical or pastoral scenes for this company during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 8 1/4".
