Unusual One-and-a-Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Inscribed "Whiskey / Jug / 1879," NY State origin, 1879, ovoid jug with tooled spout, featuring the slip-trailed cobalt inscription, "Whiskey / Jug 1879." Side of jug inscribed "1 1/2" in cobalt, underscored by a tornado-shaped flourish. Spout chips. A large T-shaped crack at base, connecting to a spider crack on underside. Traces of old black paint to surface. A 1 1/4" surface crack to shoulder area. Two small chips to underside. H 10".
