One-Gallon Bowl-Shaped Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, wide, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, brush-decorated around the body with nine arched swag designs, applied over a whitish slip coating. Excellent color and appealing form. Rim chips. Two vertical surface lines ascending from base, measuring 3" and 2 3/4", neither of which extend through to interior. A glazed-over 1 3/4" surface line at base on side of jar, not visible on interior. H 6 1/4" ; Diam. (across top) 8 1/4".
