Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Cream Jar with Cobalt Wreath and 1883 Date, Stamped "EVAN R. JONES / PITTSTON, PA," 1883, large-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a wreath surrounding the date, "1883." Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Rare design, date, and use of slip cup decoration. Some wear to cobalt. A thin 4 3/4" crack from rim on reverse. Staining to bottom half of jar. Two in-the-firing chips to underside at edge. An in-the-firing iron ping to interior. H 14 1/4".
