Fine Ten-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Fruit Decoration, OH origin, circa 1870, large-sized, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied strap handles, decorated with a boldly-brushed design of two pieces of fruit, likely representing apples or pomegranates, hanging from a stem with leaves. Elaborate cobalt spot decoration around each piece of fruit. Impressed "X" on reverse for ten gallons. Outstanding size, form, and decoration. Excellent condition with some grease residue to surface. H 19 1/2".
