Two Stoneware Jars with Incised Drape-and-Tassel Decoration, CT or NJ origin, circa 1820, one-gallon and two-gallon jars of similar ovoid form with footed bases, tooled shoulders, applied lugs, and flared rim. Each decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif on the front, the one-gallon jar additionally featuring this design on the reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. One-gallon jar with three cracks from rim as well as a crack on underside, continuing several inches up body of jar. Two-gallon jar with a curving crack from rim on front, a large Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse, and a short crack from rim on reverse. Reverse of two-gallon jar also with an in-the-firing iron ping, rim chips, a horizontal crack and small chip to one handle, a crack across underside extending onto base in two places, and a flake to underside. H 10 1/8".
