Outstanding Three-Gallon Stoneware Water Cooler with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, New England origin, circa 1850, keg-form cooler with raised banding and circular bunghole, decorated with boldly-brushed flowering plant motifs at the shoulder, midsection, and sides of the bunghole. Wide cobalt stripe to banding, composed of numerous short vertical strokes of cobalt. Cobalt highlight to bunghole. Cobalt highlight to capacity mark. Striking decoration with exceptional color and contrast. Very nice condition. A shallow 1/2" chip to front rim of cooler. A shallow 3/4" rim chip on side of cooler. A few tiny rim nicks. Some water glass staining to surface. Flange on interior of rim with a chip and 3/4" crack. Interior of bunghole with a small chip and some very minor nicks. H 12 1/4".
