Fine Stoneware Harvest Jug with Elaborate Applied Foliate Decoration, Marked "C.L," Ohio origin, circa 1885, domed form with wide and narrow pouring spouts, featuring a heavily-incised, branch-form handle with applied and incised vines emanating from each terminal. Base with applied letters, "C.L," for the maker or owner of the jug. Surface covered in a light-brown Albany slip glaze, scraped away from the lettering prior to firing to allow them to stand out. Losses to four, probably small applied pieces on handle, which likely represented short, sawed limbs. These four spots are now painted brown. A chip to two leaves. A chip to end of handle. Other minor wear. H 10 1/2".
