Stoneware Canning Jar Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and narrow opening with semi-squared rim, the shoulder decorated with sponged cobalt over a slip-coated ground. Additional fainter, streaked cobalt accents below. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark at shoulder. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small in-the-firing surface chip (contact mark) near base. H 9 1/4".
