Rare Cobalt-Decorated Presentation Inkstand, Inscribed "elisha mans inkstand / Janua[ry]...," American, second quarter 19th century, cylindrical form with central ink hole surrounded by three quill holes; decorated around the top with half-moon brushwork, three freehand spots, and highlights to the openings. Incised around midsection with an inscription for the owner and date. Areas of restoration to exterior wall of inkwell, obscuring some of the inscription. Restoration includes a filled 1" section, which has not been colored. Tight cracks on underside, including a flaked area along one crack. H 1 1/2" ; Diam. 2 7/8".
