Very Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Man's Profile, Ohio River Valley origin, circa 1845, thinly-potted, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a brushed folk art profile of a man's face on one side and a stylized, spotted floral motif on the reverse. Large chain link decoration around shoulder. Likely made in the Ohio / Kentucky area. Exceptional decoration and size. A reglued 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" section at rim. An approximately 2 3/4" crack from rim, descending from a restored 3/4" rim chip. Some wear to surface. H 7 1/4".
