Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA / D.C.," circa 1835, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, tooled shoulder, and applied tab handles, decorated with a sweeping floral motif including lesser-seen Germanic tulips. Reverse shoulder decorated with three foliate devices. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Chips to handles, one of which is glazed over. A faint 3" hairline from rim, extending through right handle. A very short, minor surface line to rim. A faint 5 3/4" spider line extending from base on front of jar. Minor base nicks.
