Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Zelienople, PA Advertising, Beaver, PA origin, circa 1870, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "FROM / IFFT & GELRACE / MERCHANTS / ZELIENOPLE. PA.," applied over a slip coating. Zelienople is located in Butler County, twenty-eight miles north of Pittsburgh. Relatively few Western Pennsylvania advertising pieces made in Beaver are known. Three hairlines extending from rim to shoulder on reverse/side of jar, one in the form of an inverted T. A short, tight hairline from rim on front. Wear to cobalt. Two small base chips.
