Outstanding Stoneware Vase with Profuse Cobalt Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, second half 19th century, ovoid form with footed base and semi-rounded rim, decorated from base to shoulder with a slip-trailed "fish scale" motif interspersed with three-petaled flower blosssoms. Collar decorated with slip-trailed "eye" decoration and rim decorated with chainlinks. Among the most heavily-decorated examples of 19th century American stoneware known. Very nice condition. A thin inverted 2 1/2" Y-shaped crack from rim. Two very short lines to rim area. Some faint surface crazing to interior of rim, not visible on exterior. A 1" glazed-over base chip. H 8".
