Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, probably Capt. James Morgan, Cheesequake, NJ, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated with a slip-trailed foliate motif at the shoulder and stylized drapes below each handle. Reverse decorated with a brushed band of cobalt highlighting the tooling at the shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A shallow 1 1/8" chip to front of rim. A shallow in-the-firing chip to top of rim. A minor base chip and a few typical, very minor in-the-firing flaws to surface.
