Unusual Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock, Marked "HAMILTON & / JONES / GREENSBORO. / PA", circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled signature "HAMILTON &", flanked by brushed flourishes and followed by the hand-brushed name, "JONES". Brushed "4" with freehand and stenciled flourishes at center. Base stenciled "GREENSBORO. / PA". Freehand stripes below rim and at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. An interesting use of stencil and freehand application of the signature. Chips to left handle. Minor nicks to right handle. Crock is slightly misshapen. Some minor surface wear. A small in-the-firing ping to interior.
