Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-in-Wreath Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS / BINGHAMTON. N.Y.", State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird with turned head, perched within a wreath-shaped, flowering plant. Typically, this design only includes a single stem to the flowering plant; the inclusion of a second stem to form a wreath is unusual. Slip-trailed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some light fry to cobalt. A small in-the-firing base chip on front. A minor base chip on right side of jug. Some minor surface flakes to base area on right side of jug. A short, minor horizontal line along bottom edge of jug.
