Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Watch Spring Decoration, Manhattan, NY or Cheesequake, NJ origin, fourth quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a cobalt watch spring motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Rim chips. Some light exfoliation to one side. A 2 1/2" Y-shaped surface line to opposite side, not visible on interior. Surface crazing to base area, not visible on interior. A short surface line from rim above one handle, not visible on interior.
