Rare One-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Open Handles, Stamped "V", attributed to the Reverend John Landrum Pottery, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1840, ovoid jar with rounded rim and two applied strap handles at shoulder, the surface covered in a smooth, olive-colored alkaline glaze. Base impressed with "V" stamp. Desirable form. One side with a tight inverted Y-shaped crack from rim and a tight 5" crack from rim, emanating from a small chip. Some wear to handle edges. H 8 1/4".
