Two Pieces of Rockingham-Glazed Pottery, John L. Rue, Matawan, NJ, circa 1880, an oval footwarmer with reddish-brown glaze, embossed on both sides, "THE J L RUE POTTERY CO. / FOOT WARMER"; paired with a molded pitcher in the form of a bulldog with incised details, the surface covered in a reddish-brown glaze. Footwarmer with some surface wear, one side with a tight surface crack and three kiln furniture marks. Pitcher in excellent, essentially as-made condition. L (of foot warmer) 9 3/4" ; H (of pitcher) 8 5/8".
