Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON. N.Y", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large cobalt design of a crested bird with fan-shaped tail and spotted wing, perched on a flowering vine. Slip-trailed "2" above. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Exceptional color. Excellent condition with a minor chip to interior of rim and a small in-the-firing iron ping to reverse.
