Very Rare "Pete Mud" Brick Clay Figure, Lewis Zeiler, Gorley Brothers Brickyard, Roanoke, VA, 1889, hand-sculpted figure of a man holding a brick with incised details to head, coat, and hands. Reverse with relief-carved name, "Pete Mud". Includes the following letter: Pete Mud / Made / by Lewis Zeiler at / the Gorley Brother's Brick yard, Roanoke City, / Virginia, 1889, and presented to this / Museum, by Miss / Emily C. Gorley and / her brother, Eugene. / Oct. 30, 1889-". It is not known what museum the letter references, nor the age of the letter, although it is old. Figure with reglued break to base, and loss to nose and one hand. Letter framed, but missing glass. H (of figure) 5 1/8" ; Dimensions (of framed letter: 9 5/8" x 7 5/8".
