Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Plate, Inscribed "Butler", Huntington, L.I., NY origin, mid to late 19th century, with coggled edge, the interior decorated with the yellow-slip inscription, "Butler", with dashed lines above and below. The distinctive penmanship and dashed lines on this inscription lead to a firm attribution to Huntington, Long Island, NY. While a large number of slip-inscribed plates from nearby Norwalk, CT have survived, few from Huntington have been documented. Rim chips. Flakes to interior. Diameter 11 1/2".
