Rare Half-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Impressed Drape Decoration, Stamped "T.W. J.L", Thomas Warne and Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base, heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an impressed drape motif below the maker's mark, "T.W. J.L". Brushed brown-slip highlights to maker's mark, drape motif, and handle terminals. Shoulder further embellished with a coggled column motif between a sawtoothed edge. Excellent size and desirable maker. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago; ex-Robert J. Sim Collection (includes Sim's labels on underside). A 7/8" in-the-firing chip to top of spout. Otherwise excellent condition. H 10".
