Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & CO. / GEDDES, NY", circa 1860, highly-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a stylized ground or fence, embellished with crosshatching and spots. Slip-trailed "2" to right of bird. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Includes salt-glazed lid, likely original to the jar. Exfoliation to bottom half of jar on reverse. A reglued 2 1/2" x 1" piece at rim above left handle. Rim chips and chips to inner rim for lid. A tiny nick to one handle. An in-the-firing iron ping at base on side of jar. Some light staining. Lid in excellent, essentially as-made condition.
