Very Rare Four-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration of an Arched Window and Incised Initials, Crawford County, GA origin, late 19th or early 20th century, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, the surface covered in a streaky olive-brown alkaline glaze. Incised under one handle with a large drawing of an arched-top window. Incised on interior shoulder with conjoined initials. Few examples of Georgia stoneware from this period are known with incised decoration. An interesting folk art image coupled with appealing form and glaze. Shallow chipping to one handle. A glazed-over 1" chip to opposite handle. A few minor rim chips. H 13 1/4".
