Unusual Rustic Spongeware Spittoon, American, late 19th or early 20th century. wheel-thrown spittoon with tooled rim and original drain hole at shoulder, the surface decorated with applied sawed branches and incised bark. Body of spittoon covered in a cream-colored glaze and decorated with brown, white, and gray slip highlights. Interior decorated with a white glaze covered with cobalt sponging. Rim chips. Shallow chips and wear to some applied sawed branches. H 3 1/2" ; Diameter 8 1/2".
