Scarce Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Keg-Form Water Cooler, Stamped "SMITH & DAY, / MANUFACTURERS / NORWALK, CON.", CT origin, circa 1840, ovoid form with tooled and cobalt-highlighted banding and circular bunghole, impressed with Smith & Day maker's mark at shoulder. Impressed with a small "5" on top of rim. A 1 3/8" hairline along top of rim, extending 2" down shoulder of cooler. A thin 4" vertical crack to base on side of cooler, continuing 2 1/2" onto underside.
