Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration and "1840" Date, probably Sidney Risley, Norwich, CT, 1840, ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flower with stem forming the number "3", flanked by the slip-trailed date, "1840". Very nice condition with a tight horizontal line in lower handle terminal, probably in-the-firing, a short, in-the-firing V-shaped surface line at base on reverse, and some shallow chipping to base.
