Exceptional Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HARRINGTON & BURGER / ROCHESTER", NY State origin, circa 1852-1854, semi-ovoid churn with flared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistically-rendered, slip-trailed design of a flowering plant featuring open and closed blossoms with heavily-shaded leaves and petals. Open blossom includes heavy cobalt crosshatching to center petal. Shoulder inscribed "4." in cobalt slip. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Includes original salt-glazed stoneware lid and wooden dasher. Desirable maker and form with striking decoration and color. A 13 1/2" vertical crack on reverse. A 1" in-the-firing contact mark / surface chip to front. A thin 2" crack from rim above left handle. Lid with cracks and small chips.
