Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Alexandria, VA Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising "E.J. MILLER & SON. / DEALERS IN / CHINA AND GLASS / WARE. / ALEXANDRIA. VA." Cobalt straight and wavy stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with freehand cobalt "3" flanked by flourishes. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some minor paint(?) residue at base and a minor glazed-over stone ping at base on reverse.
