Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Leaf and Grapes Decoration, Stamped "HARRINGTON & BURGER / ROCHESTER, N.Y.", circa 1852-1854, ovoid jug with squared spout, decorated with an artistically slip-trailed design of three leaves conjoined at the stem. A cluster of grapes or berries, an unusual addition to this Rochester motif, appears at the base of the stem. Slip-trailed "2." to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced collection of Northeastern U.S. stoneware. Excellent condition with some staining to surface and bubbling to number "2.".
