Very Rare Quart-Sized Stoneware Pitcher, Stamped "SWAN & STATES / STONINGTON", CT origin, circa 1825, finely-potted ovoid pitcher with cylindrical collar and lightly-pinched pouring spout, the surface covered in a reddish-brown slip and covered in a salt glaze. Midsection impressed with the Stonington, CT maker's mark of partners, Ichabod States and Joshua Swan. Rare form and exceptional size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent condition with some minor rim chips and extremely minor base wear. H 7 1/4".
