Glazed Redware Jar with Coggled Decoration, possibly Andrew Pitman, Stephens City, VA, first quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, thin rim, and distinctive angled shoulder decorated with dentile coggling. Surface covered in a brownish lead-and-manganese glaze. Chipped areas on the rim and base reveal that the kiln was heated to a temperature that vitrified areas of the clay to a stoneware-like consistency. Heavy chipping to rim and base. H 6 1/8".
