Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jars, Western PA origin, circa 1875, a semi-ovoid canning jar, stenciled "EXCELSIOR WORKS", attributed to Isaac Hewitt, Jr., Rice's Landing, PA; paired with a tapered canning jar with stenciled floral motif. Provenance: Collection of Lorren Lambert, Staunton, VA. Excelsior Works jar broken into pieces and partially restored. Floral-decorated jar with large reglued piece on reverse, a thin, unrestored 2" crack from rim on reverse, chipping to interior of rim, and a few chips to inner wax sealer rim. H (of floral-decorated jar) 6 3/4".
