Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "McKENZIE / & / JACKSON. / BEAVER PA.", circa 1855, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, the surface dipped in whitish slip and decorated with a large flowering plant design emanating from a stripe at the base. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A difficult-to-find Western PA maker's mark. Provenance: From an over forty-year private collection. Large area of restoration to left of decoration, extending onto side of jar and partway onto reverse. Some additional restoration to underside. A hairline on underside forming a short "Y" at base on reverse. A minor handle chip. Two minor chips on interior of rim.
