Two Pieces of New York City Advertising Stoneware, New York City or New York State origin, circa 1840-1885, a two-gallon cylindrical jug with cobalt tulip decoration and freehand "2", impressed with cobalt-highlighted advertising, "JAMES A. TILFORD, / CHOICE WINES, TEAS, & C. / NO 1 THIRD AVENUE N YORK"; paired with a one-gallon crock with slip-trailed leaf decoration, impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertsing, "HEINSOHN BRO'S / HOUSE FURNISHING GOODS / MT. VERNON N Y". Jug in excellent condition with a few minor base chips and an iron ping to one side. Crock with a thin 2" crack from rim on reverse, a short spider line at base on reverse, which continues a short distance onto underside, an additional Y-shaped surface line to reverse, and some chipping to interior of rim.
