Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN P. FELL & CO / MANUFACTURERS / WILKES-BARRE PA.", third quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed floral motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curving line of cobalt underneath each handle. This is the first example of stoneware from this rare maker we have auctioned. Tight cracks throughout. Heavy chipping to rim. Minor wear to one handle. A 1 1/2" chip to underside at edge. A few lesser base chips.
