Scarce Glazed Redware Slip Cup, probably PA origin, Dated 1842, wheel-thrown slip cup with footed base, tooled shoulder, pinched sides, and applied spout, the surface covered in a lead glaze over a colorful green ground with orange spotting. Underside incised with the date "1842", below possible potter's initials. As only a small number of slip cups were produced for each pottery, made for the daily rigors of decorating ware, relatively few have survived. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Loss to tip of spout. Chip to underside at edge. A minor chip to opening. Otherwise excellent condition. H 3 7/8".
