Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J MANTELL / PENN YAN", New York, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering tulip plant bearing two blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. An approximately 3 3/4" X-shaped line to left side of front and an approximately 2" X-shaped line to front center. Some areas of staining. Shallow chipping to inner rim for lid.
