Two Stoneware Bottles with Cobalt Initials, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1850-1880, one inscribed "C.P." in slip-trailed cobalt, the other inscribed twice with an "S", stamped "R. SWINLEY & CO / PATERSON, N.J." Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, from a fifty-year private collection. C.P. bottle with small spout chips, a short U-shaped line at base, a chip to underside at edge, and two small glazed-over base chips. Paterson bottle with an in-the-firing chip to bottom edge and in-the-firing slumping to top. H (of C.P. bottle) 10 1/2".
