Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER. & CO. / ROCHESTER, NY", circa 1850, ovoid jug with thick, tapered spout, decorated with a boldly slip-trailed design of a flower with heavily-shaded petals and leaves. Slip-trailed "2" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. A 2" x 2 3/8" area of rough-surfaced, in-the-firing salt residue to reverse. A 2" hairline from spout on front. A 5 1/2" line to shoulder area on reverse. Chips to interior of spout. A minor in-the-firing chip to top of handle with three very faint lines extending from it.
