Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Clover Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, ribbed lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated on the front and reverse with a two-stemmed clover motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals and a curving line of cobalt underneath each handle. Incised "6" at shoulder. 3 1/2" x 3" and 2" x 1 3/4" painted areas of restoration to shoulder on one side, possibly to an in-the-firing contact mark. Cracks in underside, two of which continue onto base. H 18 1/2".
