Fine and Scarce Small-Sized Stoneware Jar with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th century, ovoid jar with narrow, footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and slightly-flared rim, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design. Combed accents to interior of incised decoration. Excellent size and early-period combed decoration. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Heavy, mostly shallow, chipping to exterior of rim, including three filled rim chips. Shallow chips to interior of rim. Some small surface flakes, a few of which have been filled. H 8 1/2".
