Rare Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Ashland, KY Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, the front featuring the stenciled advertising, "NEAL JONES, / DEALER IN / FANCY & / STAPLE / GROCERIES. / WINCHESTER ST. BET. 5th & 6 / ASHLAND. KY". Freehand "4" flanked by flourishes near base. Freehand cobalt stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor chip to one handle.
