One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, New York State origin, possibly Troy, NY, circa 1825, highly-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate design in the Manhattan style. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. Very nice condition with a shallow, post-firing spout chip and a minor, glazed-over spout chip.
